Rounding Up Last Week From Universal Pictures to Time Warner

Posted by Sravan | March 9, 2009 .

Universal Pictures for its upcoming Fast and Furious movie released an Adobe AIR widget through which users can receive breaking news related to the film, view a countdown timer, watch trailers and video clips, download wallpapers, connect with other fans real-time, and get directions using its built-in GPS map. This may be the first foray of Hollywood into using RIAs for PR and obviously won’t be the last.

Aral shared some of the wonderful tributes he had received for his recent keynote at PHP UK Conference 2009. The talk was titled “The Future’s So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades” and the post on his blog is numbered, ahem, 1984. :)

Another reason to attend these Flash and Flex camps: great fun. Doug McCune had written that Greg would be giving his Flex Camp Miami keynote in underwear which was only half true. And Adrian Parr may have found Adobe’s inspiration for the AIR logo in cleaner blocks in the toilets in Flash Camp London.

Adobe MAX 2009 is calling for proposals for labs and sessions. It will be open until Apr 15, 2009.

The results for the InsideRIA poll about developers’ contributions to open source efforts are out. Over 50% at least once a year, 35% monthly, and 25% weekly! I think it reflects more on the InsideRIA audience.

This is huge. Adobe made a press release that it is forming a media alliance with three Time Warner companies –  Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc., and Home Box Office, Inc. – on the development of next generation video and rich media experiences. They are going to work on things like DRM and monetization.
