Until I read Rob Christensen’s blog post early this month about Now Boarding, not a single thought about Adobe AIR games passed my mind.
Since then, the only AIR games I could trace have been those listed in the Adobe Marketplace, and it also had applications like alarms and stop clocks listed under the Games category. That way one could count the NY Times Crossword that comes along with the Times Reader 2.0 as another Adobe AIR game.
Frankly, none of these seemed to be beyond the Macromedia Flash games which are fun to play but do not provide an overall awesome experience. Except Now Boarding.
Now Boarding is a business simulation game, like a mini Railroad Tycoon, where the user is to manage the logistics of an airport.
Only last week I was playing AOW:DA and couldn’t stop wondering when I will be able to play such a game created using Adobe AIR. Adobe AIR may not have been designed with games in mind, but surely it is not impossible.

That’s awesome! I’ve actually been thinking about this myself but more of an AIR app that acts as a console player for various flash games. I was thinking it’d be neat if there were an AIR app that used say the PureMVC framework where it could load modules (in this case they would be games) and those modules would have access to an easy to use API to save or read data from the local file system for saving scores, saving your position in a game, even downloading various games to play offline.
