ETech – Tim O’Reilly talks about emerging technology

Posted by Charles | March 27, 2007 .

O’Reilly had a keynote speech to officially kick off ETech last night.

This year’s theme is “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

O’Reilly talked about open source hardware. As example, Chumby, the open source gadget that can be hacked and make a long list of thing out it. He implied that the new age of hardware based “2.0” is on the horizon. The open source like hardware manufacture will change how thing got made and greatly reduce the cost of making them.

Feature of Attention get a lot attention lately. Startup like twitter, jaiku mobile and the recent justin.tv, they represent (maybe) a generation shift. Something profound is going on because the ideas are everywhere recently. Each individul person is channel now.

Web 2.0 and Wall Street is one of interesting topic O’Reilly brought out. Web 2.0 is a network economy. In many Wall Street is same. We can learn great deal from Wall Street. There are startups on this front too. Lime Wire, Inkling Market, etc they all show amazing connection between web 2.0 and Wall Street.

Web 2.0 is over and out? O’Reilly said no. Open just broaders the market and innovation, like the open PC did in 80s.

Why our web is getting better and more useable? Because there are more data.

It’ll be a exciting ETech this year.
