Ulitzer the Unstoppable Ugly Side of Sys-Con

Posted by Sravan | July 15, 2009 .

Regular readers may remember a previous post introducing Ulitzer as the ugly side of media empire Sys-Con. If you haven’t read it, I urge you to do it now. Ulitzer was launched amidst much fanfare about four months ago with “over 6000 authors”, paid them “200% ad sense revenue”, all of which turned out to be a bunch of bunkum.

At that time, when Aral Balkan exposed Ulitzer’s misdeeds, Ulitzer defamed him along with Ted Patrick, libeled him, and the story died down, unfortunately, if I may add. The story did not get the attention it deserved and Sys-Con continues to get funded by advertising dollars from major technological giants including Google, Microsoft, IBM, Sun and people buying and subscribing to its magazines and journals and conferences.

Yesterday, Ulitzer once again attacked Aral with statements like “this man’s religious, ethnic, cultural, and national background fits into FBI’s profile definition of the modern day terrorist.” Read Aral’s story for all details.

Sys-Con has not made any comment regarding these events, at least not outside Ulitzer, and even on that magazine it frequently modifies/erases previous content it is responsible for. People are putting up not only with the magazine’s blatant plagiarism and copyright violations, but also with its deeply personal attacks.

Aral is looking for anyone to take his case on a no-win-no-fee basis and there have already been voices of reason suggesting that it might not be a good idea to take against a media empire.

I have already taken a side and I don’t ask you to agree with my judgment about Ulitzer and Sys-Con. It doesn’t count. My opinion is that this story needs greater attention and I am doing everything in my capability to get that, including contacting the advertising department in the company I work for. If you agree about it needing attention, I request you to do whatever you can.

Just a quick note to thank you (again) for your support :)

Also: Sys-Con and Ulitzer are one and the same. If you replace sys-con.com with ulitzer.com in the URLs, you’ll get the same content (yes, they are flooding Google with duplicate content).

It’s a nasty can of worms.

    Hi Aral,

Glad to help. And good to see that Scott Hanselman of Microsoft has promptly taken action in his capacity. I am sure (rather hopeful) that there are similar supporters out there.
