The Eagle Has Landed

Posted by Sravan | July 24, 2009 .

The 40th anniversary celebrations of the Apollo 11 Moon landing go on. Domani Studios built a beautiful Flex-based website called We Choose the Moon that takes us through the odyssey in 11 stages using the material provided by the JFK Presidential Library & Museum.

We Choose the Moon

At each stage are photos, videos, 3D flyovers around the shuttle, a mission status, a mission transmission widget, and a mission tracker widget. I loved the mission transmission that gives a feel of the excitement between the Capcom and the spacecraft (“If we’re late in answering… it’s because we’re munching sandwiches,” “I’d like to enter Aldrin in the oatmeal eating contest… he’s on his 19th bowl”), and the trivia that gives an overview of the world at that time (Only 25 seconds of fuel remained in Apollo 11 remained when it landed on the moon. The moon is not made of Swiss cheese. Oh! boy!).

The Adobe AIR team is understandably excited about this website and its widgets; they are another Apollo team.
