“Real Time” is old but new buzz word, ranging from IM, instant brain dump (twittering) to real time search toyed by Google and others. The recent Bay Bridge closure in San Francisco put the web map providers in a “real” time test too. The contenders are Google Map, Yahoo Map and Bing Map. The result is: Google reminds user and allows drag the rout on map to detour. Yahoo makes detoured route without telling users what’s going on. Bing map ignores the closure and does business as usual.

Obviously the data is available for these vendors. The difference is at how they think the users would use their services.
