I think so.
Mark Milian and Harry McCracken have been collecting the murder evidence, which has been mounting for months:
• Gears is not supported in Mac versions of Chrome
• Standalone Gears is not supported in Snow Leopard, months after release
• Google’s been evasive about Gears support in Chrome OS, even though offline web apps are a vital part of it
• Google hasn’t announced a new Gears-compatible product in months
Google has been entering the RIA client side space. I know a lot of you may not agree with me on Google is up to RIA. It’s true. Google is a wide and big and rolling forward and on everybody’s path. To them, the client side is the place they want to take over, regardless we call it RIA or browser OS. This all about Chrome OS and HTML5.

Google Gears in its current incarnation.. maybe… But I would think Google Gears would be a cornerstone of Chrome OS.
Do you not think Chrome OS will offer an offline mode?
