How to Build a Silverlight Application using Blend
Well… another day and another challenge… though this time, it was not I who faced the challenge but a younger colleague of mine (the change felt good; it’s usually me who goes around asking for help with all this new technology!). He wanted to create a Silverlight application in MS Expression Blend. So, we set about looking up some resources to do the same. Silverlight being considerably new, not a lot of people at my work place are familiar with it. Further, at the time Mike wanted to create the application, there weren’t enough Help resources available on Silverlight. After looking up some online resources, we finally figured out the way to creating a simple Silverlight application.
Here’s how to create a simple Silverlight application in Blend.
- Select the File tab and from the menu select the New Project option. Now, the New Project dialog box will open.
- Next, you will have to type in a name for your Silverlight application, location, and language.
- And then, click the Ok button. Your new project will be created.
Upon creation, the project will have the standard Default.html page, an XAML document, and some JavaScript code hidden behind these two pages. It also contains Silverlight.js that has the code required for downloading and instantiating a Silverlight control. You can find out more by actually creating a Silverlight application. That’s how Mike and I found out!
