struggling with dashboard and RIA resurface

Posted by Charles | August 6, 2007 .

One sure way to introduce a RIA technology is via building/showing a dashboard application. this is especially a success way of getting high level attention to Flash / Flex based RIA technology. However, when the RIA space is getting very crowded month after month, some confusion resurfacing about the whole dashboard thing. Here is a article named Dashboard Yea or Dashboard Nay, which is a interesting reading.

… in terms of sheer what-you-see-is-what-you-get-ability (WYSIWYG)—are in a whole different class from the packaged dashboards marketed by most BI and PM players. Not that packaged dashboards aren’t being (or haven’t been) Web 2.0-ified, of course. Most major players—including Business Objects SA, Cognos Inc., MicroStrategy Inc., and Oracle Corp. (which purchased dashboard champ Hyperion Solutions Corp. earlier this year), among others—deliver Web 2.0 features sets in their own dashboard offerings. These include support for both Asynchronous Java over XML (AJaX) and Flash, along with the requisite support for Web services standards like the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML), and others.

Apparently there are some more education needs to done to lots of gurus.
