Fichey and Flashy to the Web Popularity History

Posted by Charles | November 20, 2007 .

You know and use StumbleUpon, don’t you. StumbleUpon or other bookmark sites such as del.icio.us are focusing on what you like. However, one thing is missing (or one dimension) is the time. Popularity on web is not a static thing. It changes over time. That’s where the Flash site Fichey comes in.

What Fichey does is that it allows you specify the date back and pick one popularity contest sites as sources. Then it brings up the most popular site from that date according to that source site. The source sites are del.icio.us, digg, downfly, Google news, NY Times Most E-mailed, Random Pages, reddit and StumbleUpon.

For people not only just browsing and killing time online, but also interested in something like the crowd minding, this could be a great tool to use. Besides, it’s really fun too. You do get introduced some sites you wouldn’t think even could be existing.

The Flash UI is in the way I like, very simple. Only thing on it is the box that allows select date and source. The rest is just open space (well, it’s web, isn’t it/)
