It’s about Time for Silverlight’s Turn

Posted by Charles | February 26, 2008 .

Adobe just had a big Bang with the releases of both Flex 3 and AIR 1.0. All the signs show that it’s about time for Silverlight 2.0 to give RIA another push. Could be very soon. And, according to Jesse Liberty at Silverlight.net, “Silverlight 2 is big. Very big. It’s great, but it is very big,  with many cool features.”

How would you prepare for Silverlight? Jesse gives some tips:

if I were a bleeding edge Silverlight programmer who just cannot wait for release of Silverlight 2 and its documentation, here is what I’d do today:

  • Read Scott Guthrie’s blog post  “First Look at Silverlight 2
  • Read Programming WPF (2nd ed) , especially these Chapters:  Layout, Input, Controls, Simple Data Binding, Styles, Control Templates, XAML

From what I learned from Scott Guthrie’s post, the Silverlight 2 will finally become something can be mentioned side by side with Flex, in terms of RIA development features for real RIA development. Up to now, Silverlight is pretty much just catching up what Flash does about bit stream on screen. All the .Net developers feel short handed whenever touch it.

Can’t wait to compare Silverlight 2 to Flex 3.
