Sites Vs Movies
We see full-flash sites or flash animations embedded inside other flash animations all the time. They provide a rich visual experience. However, they may be poor in terms of index-ability and bookmark-ability. There is a trade-off between experience and functionality. Or is there?
E.g. Various levels in games or surveys or tests, linking other games or surveys or tests, Youtube videos with links to other videos within them. They do something right.
Leaning towards functionality need not mean a complete compromise of experience. Consider a slide show presentation. Each slide is individual with its own title, bullet points, images, and notes. Whether it’s a slide show or a flash site, it’s about effective (and rich) communication. Only, instead of comparing a slide show and a flash movie, compare a slide and an HTML with a flash movie.
The title and bullet points (keywords, links) sit in the HTML (even if present in flash), the images and notes make up the video and audio of a flash file. Flash files may be embedded in each other, but they are always a part of other slides, i.e., other HTMLs which can be reached through the current HTML.
