During the past month, I was struggling to move the Flex888 off the lifeless web hosting company I was with. What happened was the traffic to Flex888 increased sharply and it run out of bandwidth. The hosting company won’t response my screaming so the site went down. Anyway, Flex888 is back again and I do learned a few things about moving Wordpress around.
But, I wish Grid Server released sooner so that I can move Flex888 there.
Grid Server from Mediatemple is open for business today. They are totally abandoned the redactional shared hosting plan, which is not proactive and can’t handle spike demanding on contents and traffic. With them the hosting is severed by grid of servers. On top of the fixed monthly fee, you pay the exceed resources, “GPU” and bandwidth, on demand. There will be no worry about “bad neighbor” problem on traditional shared hosting. The servers will be added into grid depends on the overall resources demanding. Cool.
The basic plan is $20 per month. Higher than shared hosting but much cheaper than traditional dedicate hosting.
And, they’ve got Ruby on Rail container! You can install you own Gems and manage you own RoR instance. The container will increase size automatically if your application grows larger.
I won’t be surprised to find out they will be more of similar hosting companies popup soon. On-demand is the future.

Well, ever since I moved to the Grid Server it has been down every day for a few hours. It’s down as we speak.
