AIR iPhone is a virtual iPhone created using the Ribbit API. The desktop application simulates the UI of the iPhone and can be used as a fully functional phone.
Apart from a cool look and feel, the AIR iPhone offers a number of features. Users can receive and make calls from landlines, mobiles, and online phones. They can send voicemails using the “Shout” feature. They can retrieve their voice messages from any other phone by simply calling into the voicemail system. Additionally, a text transcription service is provided to facilitate transcription of voice messages into text messages.

For the time being, the AIR iPhone is available only to registered Ribbit Developers. (It is free to register as one.) Later it will be available for everyone at ribbit.com.
Joe Johnston, a developer working for a design studio called Knoware, created AIR iPhone. Ribbit gave him the opportunity to integrate VoIP into the rich app. You can get more information about this from the Ribbit Showcase.
Ribbit calls itself “Silicon Valley’s first phone company”. It is an open platform for telephony innovation. InfoWorld named the company as one of the Top 10 Tech Startups for 2008.
