Flash is now Searchable

Posted by Ross | July 1, 2008 .

Fantastic news for all users of Flash technology! Today Adobe announced that they are teaming up with major search engines such as Google and Yahoo to make Flash search-able. Adobe is providing Yahoo and Google with optimized Adobe® Flash® Player technology to enhance their ability to search the SWF file format and uncover information that is currently overlooked.

This is a major boon to RIA developers as they will no longer have to modify their websites to appear in search engine results. Currently search engines are able to index links and static text in the SWF format but they will now be able to index the dynamic text that makes RIAs so appealing.

Google is already taking advantage of the new partnership with Adobe and is indexing millions of RIA enabled websites as you read this. Yahoo will be incorporating the new technology in the next update of their search engine. You should see the effect of this on your RIA website in the very near future as many more users will be able to find your website and you will no longer have to spend as much effort rewriting your site to appear in the search engines. This is good news for everyone.

Good news at last. It took a while for these biggies to come together.
