Flex Programming Tips of the Week 0807b

Posted by Charles | July 14, 2008 .

DataGrid with flexible row height – DataGrid is the most used component for displaying structured data. For more complex data structure inside a grid, it takes some customization to make the display look good. This example by Harry Vikatos will tell you how that could be done.

Flex 3 Component Explorer – Let’s call it the tips of all tips. Everything learning Flex starts from here. What else need I to say?

Playing Sound effect with ProgressBar – Visual and media add legs to Flex development. Once a while you need make your program known by a nice sound track. How about rewarding your users with a charming beep after a waiting with ProgressBar fullfilled.

skinClass or ClassReference for Flash Skins – That’s very good question. Skinning is the bridge between boring developers and creative Flash designers. That’s how Flex could beat those new comers becuase they don’t have the huge assets, aka Designers. Of cause, it won’t hurt to learn a thing or two about skin programming.

Time-dealying Cairngorm Commands Execution – Using framework doesn’t mean lossing control. You still need do what need to do when business logic demands. This example shows how to tame the Cairngorm when that time comes.

Flex Data Management with Codfusion Livecycle – I can’t say enough here that Flex application is just one piece of big puzzle. A real system needs server side, period. When architecting a RIA applicaiton (or system), the server integration should be taken account. Glad to see there are more and more talks about Flex with server side example, like this one.

Thanks for the tip. Fixed it. I used SscribeFire Firefox plugin for writing this piece. Didn’t like it. Should have stopped in the first place.
