Flickr Image Downloader

Flump is a wonderful example of what could be happening on AIR tours. It was put together by Lee Brimelow and Mike Chambers during the first leg of the 2007 AIR bus tour.

Flump is a cool little AIR app that can download all publicly available Flickr photos from an account. FlickrDown (open source) and Flickr AutoDownloadr are two other Windows-only tools that have similar functionality, but AIR makes this one cross-platform compatible.

The more recent version supports authentication of accounts so that users can download even images those not publicly available. At a time when Flickr is increasingly being used as an online backup to store personal photos, it comes with perfect timing. It works even for very large batches of image downloads. However, Flump doesn’t download any Flickr metadata, not does it have pause and resume capabilities (yet).

The app has been hosted on the Google Code repository of On AIR and is only 430KB in size. The activity on the page shows that the tool has a potential to have many more features in the future, tag-based downloads for example.

One significant feature I recommend would be extending the app to download from other similar websites, like Photo Bucket.
