Exactly a month ago, I reviewed Twhirl, the social software client. Posty is another such AIR app and it is not very different.
For the sake of unified microblogging across Twitter, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Pownce and Identi.ca accounts, it is definitely a very simple and straight-forward tool and works well. (Check this vimeo video for a demo.) Twhirl also takes care of Seesmic accounts, but I feel that the support exists only because Seesmic owns Twhirl.
Apart from spell-check and visualization of multimedia items, Posty’s most interesting feature is that you can browse by personal/public/friends timeline.
Posty has been tested on several Linux distros and runs smoothly on PcLinux OS, OpenSuse, Mandriva, Ubuntu, Knoppix. The only problem on these is that Encrypted Local Store hasn’t yet been implemented on the Linux version of Adobe AIR and therefore Posty seems memoryless, i.e. “Remember” account details doesn’t work. Cesare Rocchi, the RIA enthusiast behind Posty reports that the app failed for CentOS and Slax 6.0.7.
If you are interested, get the latest version of Posty (v1.5) here. You can continue using Twhirl, unless you are not satisfied with it or you don’t need all features of Twhirl or Twhirl doesn’t seem to be working on your Linux distro.
