Google Android Vs Apple iPhone

Posted by Sravan | September 17, 2008 .

It has been announced that Google’s Android phone with T-Mobile, code-named the Google “Dream Phone”, will be unveiled on 23rd September. Eric Zeman of the Information Week confirms the news; today, he received an invitation to attend the press conference.

Will Android become a threat to Apple’s iPhone? I agree that this sounds like a silly question that is asked with Google by default these days. After all, everybody said the same thing when Chrome was released.

The “Chrome Vs IE” and “Android Vs iPhone” wars are, in my opinion, not very dissimilar. One, the latter Goliath’s have a huge userbase. Two, Apple no longer has that underdog’s sheen and is itself seen by some as that monstrous software giant. Three, Apple is now on an App banning spree. (App Store is undeniably a strong support for iPhone. And iPhone developers are protesting as App Store banning continues.)

Though industry insiders who’ve worked on Android say that it is no match to the iPhone yet, Google’s philosophy about Android is more welcome and might be the point that can win people (at least developers) in the long run. “Google sees Android as an open source platform for designing mobile devices and says it will encourage innovation by allowing outside software developers to tinker with the system and create better mobile programs and services,” Yinka Adegoke writes on IHT.

Whatever, watch this Google Android demo given in London on Google Developers Day (16th September).

Is any of you really waiting for Android?
