Head for the head Now

Posted by Sravan | September 29, 2008 .

This is to remind all those interested in attending the <head> conference to head to this page and register before the $99 early-bird tickets close tomorrow. You can also micro-sponsor the conference for $199.

<head> is a global web conference being held from Oct 24-26, 2008 in what is being touted as a “green” way. Green or not, a web conference has its conveniences. The conference was previously called Singularity, but Adobe had by then trademarked that name.

The conference covers a wide range of topics including web standards, web application development, RIAs, Flash, Flex and scalability. The event is behing held on a very large scale with 70 speakers and sessions. Turn to the Speakers and Sessions pages and you will definitely see a few names that you’ve heard before and talks that will interest you. There are also recorded sessions available to the attendees, in case the schedule forces them to miss something.

The conference website has been built using Google App Engine, a new technology to build websites and apps. The event itself will be run using Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server and a setup provided by Influxis run using Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro, hosted at Adobe.

Aral Balkan is the man behind <head>. A veteran of RIAs, he revealed about his involvement with the first RIA way back in 2000 when I wondered about the history of RIA:

We worked on a virtual school called K12 in 2000, with Branden Hall and Charlie Cordova — in Flash 5. I’m pretty sure that was the first real RIA with scheduling, tests, and lessons delivered through the same interface. It tooks kids from Kindergarden to Grade 12 and they got a diploma at the end (and it looks like it’s still going strong: http://k12.com/) :-)
