Flash 9 on PS3

Posted by Charles | October 14, 2008 .

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) had mentioned that there will be firmware update for PSP 5.0 and PS3 2.5.

One interesting new feature is that the PS3 browser will run Flash 9. Considering the PS3 is a very powerful connected computer itself, Flash or Flex developers should think out of box more for developing applications/games. Game console is increasingly becoming a very lucrative application platform.

Great! Ideal for my Google Racing application in Flex :)

I think it’s stripped down Flash 9 version, PS3 still can’t load Flex page with update.

@snowcrach, good to know that. The inconsistency of Flash on different platforms is a big problem. Wish Adobe solves it soon.

I’m amazed it took Sony this long to update to flash 9 (the day Adobe release flash 10). The browser struggled terribly with most websies making it useless. Another big weakness holding the browser back is its poor Java support. The browser needs much more fine tuning. Unfortunately the PS3 also struggles for memory.
