Microsoft Live Local Map SUV sighting

Seems there are quite a few mapping automobiles around our cities. We know Tele Atlas is busy. Immersive Media is cute with Beatle map car (shown below). Google doing 360 degree street with family van. Now there comes Microsoft’s mapping SUV. Man! our planet is hot.

 Tele Atlas sends out a fleet of the colorful 3D mapping van around this country and Europe to capture 3D street maps. There are this van sightings. Here are the close-up photos I took today. Look those image capture device there. They even have laser imagery stuffs there to capture building materials etc. A fairly good size server in side the van. Not whole lots room for mapping engineer in the van. But who need them anymore with such machine running around.

I’m at a conference in San Diego. It’s time to try out my Nokia N95 as a wireless modem so that I don’t have pay $10 for hotel’s rip-off internet connection. If you find this post then it works. I use T-Mobile with $5 monthly T-mobileweb subscription. Interesting is that so far I can get my email without problem via Outlook. But I can’t get to browse online with either Firefox or IE. Keep getting bad server request error. I think it has something to do with t-mobile. Oh well, wish you can read this post. The story started with the company called utube, a tube maker. The success of youtube.com caused lots, I mean LOTS, of traffics to the utube.com and crashed its server. Then they got smart to put on advertisements on utube.com and many people think that they make more money from ads than selling their tubes. In the mean while, they are suing Youtube for more money too. Now, if you search “Adobe AIR”, the first result from Google is adobeair.com. a cool air related hardware company.
