Flex goes Geo – 3D globe Poly9 FreeEarth

Location matters. Geo matters. Google starts a new Google Earth blog called Google LatLong. And they might claim the word “GeoWeb”.  This is all good for Flash because who can do visualization better? Here is a new prove, FreeEarth from Poly9. They created this 3D Globe, I believe is in Flex. Of cause they say it’s a cross-browser, cross-platform 3D globe which does not require any download. They even have JavaScript API so that developers can embed the globe into their own sites.

Sun’s JavaFX is out. Now what? It’s time to figure out how well the technology comparing to others such as Flash, AJAX and Silverlight. I think AJAX is out of picture because AJAX is not visual tool at all, even though Sun hinted JavaFX is a AJAX killer. Really they are aftering Flash. There are not whole lot JavaFX demos out there. Reported by InfoWorld, Sun will announce the java based scripting tool family called JavaFX, which will directly compete with AJAX and Microsoft Silverlight. It’s a scripting language it’s focusing on content-authoring and content creation. It’ runs from desktop to mobile device, of cause where is Java installed. It focuses on user experience (aka RIA) “It’s not procedural’s much easier to user” It’ll be open soured. It’s leverages 2D API in Swing It’s java under the hood but doesn’t looks like. While Microsoft attacking back on RIA front to compete with Flash/Flex/Apollo with Silverlight, are they thinking about opensource route too? Flash is doing very well in that area. Here is a Open Source Flash site has all these great free and open Flash tools. It is this kind of healthy ecosystem that helps Adobe Flash defending well.
