Flash Widget Sighting – SprintWidgets gets SDK

Posted by Moxie Zhang | March 14, 2007 | 1 Comment

Everything cool is shrinking, including applications. That’s why widgets and widget technology are getting so hot these days. You know by now I’m big fun of yourminis.com who will release API to allow create custom widgets (minis). But the waiting is just keep going and going. Then here comes the SpringWidgets. It’s a pure widget player, meaning that they don’t have a platform to host and manage your widget like yourminis does. They don’t have a social environment to allow you, well, be social, in the web 2.0 way. However, they have SDK. By the way, it’s Flash.
I think […] Continue Reading…

eBay ActionScript – Why Not Adobe does something similar

Posted by Charles | March 13, 2007 | 2 Comments

The eBay Developers Program’s eBay ActionScript SDK Beta was out. This is opensource SDK. It covers all the eBay Web Service calls, more than 100 of them. If you are eBay seller you might know the free eBay off-line windows program called Turbo Lister. It’s very crabby but better than eBay’s web UI (always amazed how eBay can get away with ugly UI by now.) However, they have this San Dimas project going on and it’s about a newer desktop off-line too, using Adobe Apollo. One VERY COOL thing we learned is, as in their blog: One of […] Continue Reading…

yourminis is on ActionScript 3 now

Posted by Moxie Zhang | March 12, 2007 | 1 Comment

These yourminis guys are moving fast. They are on ActionScript 3 now, according to what they are saying:
We’ve decided that it’s finally time for us to move to ActionScript 3
and Flash 9. The biggest reasons for this decision is centered around
our API, as we will be able to allow third party developers to use the
power of AS3 and also to leverage Flex 2.
I see two keywords here, API and Flex 2. I’ve been playing some widget APIs lately. Can’t wait to see what’s yourminis API looks like.

Creativity collaboration the Flash way – ConceptShare

Posted by Charles | March 9, 2007 | Comment

I mentioned in idea 5 that collaboration will be a big deal on the very socialized web space, especially at the creativity end of activities. There are some attempts already. ConceptShare is one of them and it’s fully using Flash technology. Here is what they are saying: What if something existed that would allow people to share designs in a contextual way and be able to add and view any number of comments including a drawing ability that meant we didn’t have to print out work and grab a red marker? And what if anyone could reply directly to a […] Continue Reading…

100 Flex Business Ideas -5

Posted by Charles | March 8, 2007 | Comment

Let me continue the 100 ideas journey. Idea 5 – FlexComposer Everyone starts asking the same question lately, what’s next, after all-you-can-eat social on the web? I think it’s collaboration. We share, comment, tag, add friends … why not do something together, something creative. You would say, we are doing it now and point me to all the opensource goodies. I know my friend. But how about opensource music, opensource video, opensource film, opensource cartoon, opensource game. Do you want to try do those with AJAX? I’d say let’s leave it to Flex/Flash to handle it with, well, the FlexComposer. […] Continue Reading…

Flex component repositories are growing

Posted by Charles | March 7, 2007 | Comment

Doug McCune, Ted Patrick, Mike Chambers and Darron Schall finally put their words to work and kicked off FlexLib, hosted on Google Code. If you like Flex then you should know these guys. And when they take action together, you might want to take a seriously look at what they are doing and what they did. FlexLib is a opensource component library to allow Flexers share and contribute. There are some cool stuffs in there already. Check them out by yourself. I wouldn’t say this is the first attempt or intension to share Flex goodies. There are Flex Coders, CFlex, Adobe Flex […] Continue Reading…

grandcentral – one call away for all your numbers

Posted by Moxie Zhang | March 6, 2007 | Comment

This, GrandCentral, is not a really a Flex or Flash startup, even though, they indeed use Flash at front page very clearly presenting what they do and what you get.

For now it’s all free. They will give you a phone number, which you can use it connect to all the numbers you have. When you get a call at the new number, all the old numbers ring. You pick up the phone and it’ll prompt you however you want do from there.

You have to check it out and play with it. I’m sure they will charge you later on […] Continue Reading…
