Flash base search engine with altitude – Ms. Dewey

Posted by Charles | October 20, 2006 | 4 Comments

Never thought search could be entertaining. The Ms. Dewey search engine is a very refreshing site with full Flash UI. I don’t think anybody would seriously using it instead of our good old Google. But give it a try! The girl, Dewey I guess, will make all the girly postures and faces to entice you. Will comment on you while you are staring at her too long without any action, I mean search. When she gets bored, she will take out some odd items to play. When I searched the word “Flash”, she set a bomb off after a […] Continue Reading…

The coolest Flash site beats all AJAXs – splice

Posted by Charles | October 20, 2006 | 5 Comments

This will be a big winner. This is what makes Flash shining. This is where AJAX can’t say me-too. Splice Music is so far the only Flash based social network startup that can’t exist without Flash.

If you love music, if you want to have a taste of a DJ, if you want to do some remix (or splice), if you want to show you talent (or accidental good mix), Splice is the place. You can put some mp3 song/music together using the Flash mix tool and make the freshest and “coolest” music, and of cause record it. Then share […] Continue Reading…

Wheres Yours -a Flex map mesh-up startup?

Posted by Charles | October 18, 2006 | 2 Comments

If you pay more attention on the web space, you would find out that the terms IRA and Flex show up together more frequently than before. Especially from those “web 2.0 expert” bloggers. I’m glad to find out there are evidences too. Here is a Flex based map mesh-up startup (or is it?) Wheresyours.com. By looking at the way it starts, it seems very likely a Flex application.   The site, once you registered, allows you “pin” a location on the map, write up a log alike article and share it. It’s interesting to play with it because […] Continue Reading…

web hosting 2.0 – grid-server

Posted by Charles | October 17, 2006 | 2 Comments

During the past month, I was struggling to move the Flex888 off the lifeless web hosting company I was with. What happened was the traffic to Flex888 increased sharply and it run out of bandwidth. The hosting company won’t response my screaming so the site went down. Anyway, Flex888 is back again and I do learned a few things about moving WordPress around.

But, I wish Grid Server released sooner so that I can move Flex888 there.

Grid Server from Mediatemple is open for business today. They are totally abandoned the redactional shared hosting plan, which is not proactive and can’t […] Continue Reading…

100 Flex Business Ideas – 4

Posted by Charles | September 8, 2006 | 1 Comment

It’ll be awhile to get all the 100 ideas but I’ll keep pushing on.   Idea 4 – Flexdget I always think Flex could be a perfect tool for the “widgeting” trend in the web space. To make widget business works, these elements should be in place: Services, widget service regulator, widget API, widget container, widgets and a feasible monetization model. Services – There are hundreds of services available. The ProgrammableWeb.com keeps tracking all the web services. Of cause, as examples, we all know Amazon AWS, Google API or Yahoo API. For enterprise people, everyone is doing SOA, […] Continue Reading…

Flex File Upload Might Need Go Further

Posted by Charles | September 7, 2006 | 4 Comments

It’s so nice that we can do file upload, thanks the new Flash. But can it goes further. I’ve got this complain from our Flex developer:   The problem with the Flex file upload using FileReference is that it does not provide support for sending SOAP attachments. Headers cannot be added (therefore we cannot specify SOAPAction) Content-Type is fixed as multipart/Form-Data which may not work with our webservice It doesn’t allow you to arrange/ specify in what order the multiparts appear in, or if you want the generated blocks to appear at all Doesn’t seem to pick […] Continue Reading…

Fjax – a Exciting Flash based Ajax But much better

Posted by Charles | September 7, 2006 | 1 Comment

Run into a new technology site Fjax. They hacked Flash and Ajax and made this Fjax, which using a 1×1 pixel swf to do the A of Ajax, the asyncronized communication. I shouldn’t say it’s hack. It’s such a well though and clean implementation! How it works? Basically you include a fjax.js file and a tiny swf into your browser. When you want to do the Ajax type of communication to server, say, fetching a chunk of XML data, you ask the swf loads the XML from server, rather than using the browser’s Javascript engine. Once get the data, you […] Continue Reading…

COWS Ajax – is it the Ajax on Steroids

Posted by Charles | September 6, 2006 | 1 Comment

The COWS Ajax is getting some attention within the Ajax world. It’s sort of playing the shining armor knight role to save Ajax from its born shortcoming and bring it to the next level. One issue it tries to address is the browser same-origin policy, which plays a important security role in web browser sandbox. COWS Ajax promises that with limited number of lines of code, you can make your web pages heavy duty Ajax players. It seems a nice tool for the mesh-up Ajax applications. In a nutshell, fully COWS Ajax implementation requires both server side and/or client side […] Continue Reading…

The 1 and 2 of the 100 Flex Business Ideas brought us the realization of DesktopTwo. Let’s keep going.
Idea 3 – FlexForce
So far Salesforce.com holds the leading flag of SaaS (Software as a Service). SaaS is considered the new generation way of software development, deployment and consummation. We start seeing the end of buying-software-and-install-it software age. Salesforce.com is a on-demon based online CRM (customer relationship management) service. The part of their business really gains attention from industry is the AppExchange community.

AppExchange is a on-demand application-sharing service. It allows you browse, test drive, share, and install applications on the […] Continue Reading…
