Adobe Flex & Adobe AIR
Adobe AIR has now been installed over 200 million times. Adrian Ludwig of the Adobe AIR team recaps the various territories it has been adopted into: social apps (mostly Twitter apps, I think), enterprise apps (Salesforce, Oracle), government apps (the Polish Finance Ministry), and what I call novelty apps (like the Fast & Furious widget and the HP Green). I reported the 100 million milestone only four months ago, hearty congratulations to Adobe AIR team, and am now anxiously awaiting similar milestones from Silverlight and JavaFX.
The Adobe Flex team is looking forward to hear from […] Continue Reading…
Rich Tretola recently posted a nice AIR/Java example for voice applications. The inspiration came from the ColdFusion Jedi Raymond Camden who posted an example of generating speech with ColdFusion and Java.
Both examples essentially use an underlying TTS (text-to-speech) system. They use Java-based FreeTTS here but you could use any of the TTS systems freely available. There seem to be some issues with using FreeTTS on Linux-flavored OSs.
Your AIR app should create an instance of the FreeTTS object that takes text as input. It does all the work needed, the howabouts of which can be ignored, and produces the speech.

Silex is an open source RIA that can be used to build Flash Web sites for Flash Player 7, 8, 9, and 10. It is a CMS which can handle a wide variety of media, comes with an online WYSIWYG editor, automatically generates deep linking for your SWFs, and creates on-the-fly HTML versions for each Flash page thus making your website more SEO-friendly.
A couple of other features that I did not understand are making a cd-rom, installing cd or a web-tv, displaying databases content and touch screens.
It has something to offer everybody whether you are a novice, web designer, […] Continue Reading…
The readers of Flex888 should have known by now we love designers. It’s the designers make the Flex RIA thrive, the Flex developers are taking a nice ride from all the years of creative works. So it’s naturally seeing a graphical designer market place built with Flex. Today I’d like show you Geniográfico. I’m not sure what the name means or what language it is but I like the idea.
The first thing I found they did it right is that I don’t see the default Flex Halo themed UI. I’m sure you know what I mean. There are too […] Continue Reading…
Watching all the excitements coming from Apple WWDC.
The Adobe Flex team is conducting three free online seminars this week covering the new features of Flash Builder 4 and Flash Catalyst. A session each for PHP developers, Flash Catalyst, and ColdFusion developers will be conducted this Tue, Wed and Thu respectively.
Lee Brimelow uploaded a two-part tutorial on Flex Builder 4 and Flash Catalyst.
Carlos Pinho found that Lynda.com is offering a training video course Flash Catalyst Beta Preview completely free to the public.
Ted Patrick set up an application on Adobe Groups for users to share skins made with Flash Catalyst. You can post your skins here.

Reported by WSJ, Adobe is about to march Flash into smart phones include Android phones, Palm Pre and high end Nokia. You know what’s missing in the list. For that, we have to wait, I guess. But takes them so long, WSJ has a theory (or insight):”But the software company’s year-plus effort to expand beyond the PC has
been hampered by shifting strategies within Adobe and an inability to
offer a version of Flash that runs on the iPhone and BlackBerry devices.”So it seems Adobe gets its house in place, “Now, the San Jose, Calif., company is reengineering its software so
Flash-based games […] Continue Reading…
There are lot of app stores germinating lately, all following the foot steps of Apple App Store. There are:
Android Market – All the apps feeding the Google Android phone, well, two of them so far G1 and G2 (should have gone to Google I/O!)
Windows Market Place for Mobile – A long plain name doesn’t change the fact it’s an app store created according to MS DNA, copy the best.
BlackBerry App World – It’ll be so much easier just call it app store. Why they are all so shy when doing the right thing, even though they are not the […] Continue Reading…
One of our readers recently had the following doubts:
Have there been any advances in search engines recognising flash sites?
Been a couple of years since I did an entire site in flash and wondered if anything had moved on in that direction.
I wondered if submitting an XML site map to google with relevant descriptions and titles was an option.
If anyone can offer advice I’d appreciate it
My last look at SEO for Flash was nearly three months ago when I discovered Ichabod. If you have not read already, read see the Advances in Flash SEO. There is a lot of hope […] Continue Reading…
