illusion of the day – car jack – and why

Why illusion art? Does it have something to do with RIA or Flash/Flex here?

I think it does. A RIA based application is 50% design and 50% programming. Of cause, people would say, programing is 50% art and 50% coding. Thus, there are a lot of artistic aspects around RIA. We all know there are only limit amount of UI elements on a application interface, buttons, links, drop downs, etc. But why some applications are extremely appealing than others? It’s all because how you arrange those elements and how you put some useless artistic touch aside of those elements. It’s […] Continue Reading…

A very empty simple beautify animated Flash home page

Posted by Charles | August 2, 2007 | 1 Comment

Here is an example of design of simplicity, at wildcard.jp.org. It’s a very empty home page and, be honest with you, I’ve no idea what the company does. Well, it does Flash well for sure. However this empty home page that tells you nothing really draws me to stay a longer time, to play with my mouse cursor.

Pay attention to the bottom of the page. There, follows the COVER ARCHIVE words, are five scale like bars you can click on. Those will give you different page animation styles. It’ll be better if you turn on the speaker. The music […] Continue Reading…

Create Flash Banner using Powerpoint with one click

They started with translating Powerpoint into Flash presentation, now they extend the site to use powerpoint create Flash banner, not just presentation anymore. I would think there won’t be too much of big change in term of backend technologies. But the notion of “create flash with powerpoint” is very appealing for people know powerpoint better but not whole lot about Flash, not alone develop a animated […] Continue Reading…

Biking with Silverlight in London

This demo from Microsoft live lab is a combination of Microsoft Live map and the Flash competitor, Silverlight. The silverlight used here is for the webcam broadcasting. Right click the video, you won’t find the familiar Flash context menu, where we used often to figure out if the piece is running on Flash. Instead, it’s Silverlight (you will be asked to installed it if you are not). In my case, it runs very well within the Firefox browser. The video is synced with the markers on the map to show where the riding is at. Not if the Silverlight […] Continue Reading…

“Imagination creates reality,” some wise man said. You would think what you see is what you get. Think again. Just staring at the cross at the image and see what will happen… and something like this be used on web site design?
